A 32-year-old man is charged with murder after a man from the Loris area died from an “unprovoked, ambush-style attack” at a Broadway at the Beach restaurant, according to an arrest warrant.
Philip David Guderyon is charged with the murder of Justin Hodges, 25, of the Loris area, who died after suffering injuries during an incident Oct. 17, authorities said.
Hodges died at Grand Strand Medical Center at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Darris Fowler, deputy coroner with Horry County.
Officers were called about 12:34 a.m. Oct. 17 to Carlos ’n’ Charlie’s at Broadway at the Beach to assist with a medical issue, police said in the arrest warrant.
Hodges was taken to the hospital where it was later discovered he suffered a “major head injury,” and he never regained consciousness and died more than a week later, the arrest warrant stated.
Myrtle Beach police interviewed witnesses, reviewed video footage and determined Hodges was the victim of an “unprovoked, ambush-style attack,” the warrant said.
Police allege Guderyon “maliciously attacked Hodges without just cause or excuse.”
Guderyon was charged with murder Thursday, but was originally arrested by Myrtle Beach police Oct. 19 in connection with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center and no bond has been set, according to jail records.
The case is still under investigation, police said. Lt. Joey Crosby said no further details were available Thursday and that more information would be provided as the investigation continues.
